My Hate Mail

November 8th, 2008

Hey, come on everyone: the DFFP philosophy is supposed to make life better, easier and more fun for women. It provides a framework to size up Male Losers and Winners and if we’re already in a relationship, it provides an easy way to communicate this to our mates. Given the challenges inherent in male/female communication, this should be welcomed.

However, Patricia feels differently. Here is her comment:

“This entire concept is appalling. This unrepentent using of any human is the most despicable thing I have ever read. No wonder you women have one failed relationship after another. American women are the most privileged people on the planet- yet they whine, complain and take delight in turning men into Read the rest of this entry »

Ask Cynthia Question 3

Topic: Managing Multiple UMs (Useful Males)

Question:
“I met ‘Tom’ at a company meeting and we started spending time together. It’s not romantic. We go to films together once or twice a month when he’s in town. I don’t even know if he’s married but I’d call him my Entertainment UM. Should I be feeling guilty Read the rest of this entry »

Changing the Bible Back (into a Girl-Friendly Book)

October 20th, 2008

I wrote this blog for two reasons. One, I got very annoyed by some blogs I read where women were telling other women what their interpretation of the world “help-meet” was. That happens to be the pathetic word that most English translations of the Bible used to describe Eve, even though it is widely regarded as an inaccurate translation. Second, I read an interesting article about a rabbi who translated the word for God in the original Hebrew scripture as being of dual gender. After a little more research…here’s my proposed solution…

Dumb Things Men Write

October 9th, 2008

When Opinion Masquerades as “Science” (ahem, your cultural prejudices are showing)

I just read a book called Sex, Time and Power by Leonard Schlain ( http://www.sextimeandpower.com/). In it he tries to explain how women originally “talked” men into being monogamous. I was very disappointed because I quite liked the first half of the book which had some decent science in it. But this idea (about who initiated monogamy) has got to be one of the dumber things I have ever read. Although for the record, the author clearly isn’t stupid. He’s just sadly mistaken. When Married Men “Hunt” at Work

When Married Men “Hunt” at Work
Recent events brought the following scenario to mind for me: Imagine us girls sitting around trying to figure out who to set “Samantha” up with next on a date. Sam is well-employed, attractive, fit, fun, and great with kids. She also works in a male-dominated industry so she meets men and is hit on by them fairly often. But gosh; there’s this married guy at work who says he’s bored in his marriage and thinks he and Sam would be “great together”. Whatever does she think about this incredibly compelling offer? Married Men Who Hit on Single Women

September 16th, 2008

Here’s an article to forward to every creepy married man who hits on single women, if you want to save yourself some time and maybe some breath. I thought I may as well write it directly to them so they wouldn’t miss the point.

Married Men Who Hit on Single Women

Craigslist has a ridiculous number of this sort of ad in the “men seeking women” section:

“MWM (Married White Male) seeking attractive, fit, single mom to restore passion lost over the years. If you too are missing this dimension of life, please respond. Discretion a must.” Read the rest of this entry »

Topic: Exchanging Usefulness in Long Term Relationships

Question:
“We filled out the Usefulness Spreadsheets* for each other. It was very interesting. I learned that he doesn’t really appreciate the work I do on the house alone because it makes him feel left out. He’s rather us do it together. Also, I handle a lot more of our cat-care. But anyway, now we’re in a bit of a standoff. He’s says he’ll supply my top three items if I’ll supply his top one. But he’s the one who’s been traveling so much lately. I feel like he should supply me first. Any thoughts on that?” Read the rest of this entry »

Why I Love Atheists

Venus

They Could Have Just Said, “Fat”
Today I read an Associated Press story about how the Austrians are excitedly celebrating the discovery of one of the oldest figurines every unburied. It is called the Venus of Willendorf, it was discovered near Vienna, and it is estimated to be 25,000 years old. Most of us have seen pictures of it, since it was uncovered in 1908, but it has only been available for public view since 1998. It is a mere four inches high. Here is what it looks like: Read the rest of this entry »
